Shelling in the ATO area significantly intensifies after the arrival of a humanitarian convoy
Rebels shelled positions of Ukrainian military 34 times overnight, which means the intensity of attacks carried out has increased, National Security and Defence Council reports.
According to the report, attacks were conducted with heavy armaments, mortars, and artillery, including Grad artillery systems.
The most intense rebel activity was observed in the Donetsk direction, although armed provocations were also detected in other directions, the press centre reports.
"Militants mortared the Donetsk airport (twice), the settlements of Vesele, Tonenke, Opytne, Maryinka Avdiivka, Gnutove, and Novotoshkivka, and Krasnogorivtsi (also twice) and the town of Pisky (three times). Rebel fighters fired with machine-guns at our positions near the settlements of Maryinka, Nikishyno, Kryakivka and Ridkodub," the report reads.
Insurgents carried out nine attacks with artillery and five with Grad volley fire systems overnight.
They used artillery to shell the settlements of Velyka Anadol, Kamianka, Oktyabrske, and Tonenke (twice), Gnutove (four times), and Grad systems to attack the settlements of Pavlopol, Raygorodka, Oktyabrske, and Krymske (twice).
Also, rebel's unmanned aerial vehicles were detected 8 times in the sky over the settlements of Denezhnikove, Scherbak, Panteleymonivka, Schastya, Chmurivka, Kramatorsk and Glinka (twice).
According to the report, illegal paramilitaries assaulted positions of Ukrainian troops in total 50 times within the 24 hours.
"The last humanitarian convoy seems to have brought to Donbas not food only", the press centre concluded.
To compare with, rebels carried out only eight attacks on Ukrainian positions on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
The eleventh Russian "humanitarian convoy" arrived in Ukraine on Thursday.
Two deaths among civilians in Donetsk as a result of shelling
Two civilians lost their lives and seven others were wounded on Thursday owing to intensive shelling of Donetsk, the official site of the Donetsk City Hall reports.
According to the report, Kiev, Kirov, and Kuibyshev districts of the city were under intense artillery fire; a large number of dwelling houses, as well as city infrastructure and communications were damaged.
Four Ukrainian soldiers died in the past 24 hours
Four Ukrainian servicemen got killed, and eight others were wounded in Donbas in the past 24 hours, a spokesman for the Ukrainian National Security and Defence Council, Andriy Lysenko, reported at a briefing.
He reminded that the ceasefire was in effect, thanks to which the number of losses among Ukrainian military had considerably decreased; still, they are allowed to fight back adequately in case of need.
As you may know, the ATO press centre reported earlier on a significant increase in rebel shell strikes. The press centre linked them with the arrival of a new Russian humanitarian convoy".
The Lugansk governor, Gennadiy Moskal also claimed that shell strikes had become more frequent.
