To list all the events undertaken by the Ukrainian Association of Retired Persons over 12 years of activity, we would have to create a separate site. Indeed, over the years there have been many different activities.


So here we would mention only some of them, which left a noticeable trace in public life.

 

The Conference "Possibilities of the Third Sector in

the Provision of Legal Assistance to the Elderly People"

 

Ukrainian Association of Retired Persons in a framework of the Project with the support of the Democracy Grants Program of the U.S. Embassy to Ukraine organized and held a conference "Possibilities of the third sector in the provision of legal assistance to the elderly people." The conference was attended by representatives of the Pension Fund of Ukraine, the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy of Ukraine, Kyiv and Sevastopol State Administrations, PADCO company (project "Pension Reform in Ukraine"), the International Ukrainian Union of veterans - the combatants, the Institute of State and Law of the National Academy of Sciences, Academy of Medical Sciences Institute of gerontology of Ukraine, other organizations and institutions, representatives of the media.

 

During the conference a presentation of "Legal Guide of elderly person" was made. The volume edited and published by UARP as part of the Project supported by the Democracy Grants Program of the U.S. Embassy to Ukraine was printed in the Publishing house "INFOCENTER".

 

The Contest among Domestic Media for the Best Coverage of

the Discussion of the UARP Bill Against Discrimination of the Elderly

 

A session of the Commission on summarizing the announced by UARP competition among local media for the best coverage of the discussion of the bill "On Prevention of Seniors Discrimination in Ukraine" has passed.

 

25 printed publications were submitted to the Commission. As a result of the full and complete consideration of the materials Commission decided:

1. The First Prize will not be awarded.

2. The Second Prize (UAH 1000) is awarded to the newspaper "Netishynskyi Visnyk" (Khmelnytsky oblast) for the articles of Ruslana Cherniuk "Discrimination in All Its Forms" – the issue number 41 (1177) of 8 October 2004 and "Defended from… Us" - at the issue number 42 (1178) of 15 October 2004.

3. The Third Prize (UAH 500) is awarded to the newspaper "Novomyrhorodschyna" (Kirovohrad oblast) for the publication "What the forthcoming day is bringing us?" at the issue number 41 (8506) of 9 October 2004, and "Opinions Exchange at the Round Table" at the issue number 43 (8508) of 23 October 2004.

4. The Incentive Prize (UAH 250) is awarded to the newspaper "Malovyskivskyi Visnyk" (Kirovohrad oblast) for the article of Volodymyr Tilnov "Drop a Kind Word in Favour of Elderly Person!..." at the issue number 81 (9268) of 9 October 2004 and the newspaper "Prapor Peremohy" for the publication of Volodymyr Pylypiuk "Veterans Will Share the Experience" and Iryna Martyniuk "Between Me and the Grandchildren Is the Whole Life" at the issue number 86 (7293) of 19 October 2004.

5. Appropriate amounts of premiums were transferred to the accounts of the mentioned media.

 

The Meeting in Lviv Oblast State Administration

 

Ukrainian Association of Retired Persons is actively working to promote the package of social programs in areas where UARP offices are not yet legalized. This is the best possible in a regions where local authorities shows interest in cooperation with NGOs. The President of the UARP Volodymyr Dziobak met with the senior management of the Lviv Oblast State Administration and representatives of several administrations districts of Lviv Oblast. He held a presentation of the Association, spoke about the scope and purposes of UARP, how its programs operate and what they are giving to senior citizens.

 

The Meeting in Sorority

 

A group of the Association staff, headed by the Deputy Chairman of the UARP Board Myhailo Khodakivskiy participated in a meeting with members of the Program "Dialogue of Generations" in Kyiv City Organization of Olena Teliha sorority.

 

Mykhailo D. Khodakivskiy narrated to members of the sorority about the Ukrainian Association of Retired Persons, the row of its existing programs, to participate in which UARP involves increasingly wider range of citizens and entrepreneurs, business leaders, organizations and institutions.

 

The meeting ended with a distribution of prizes to UARP programs participants.

 

The UARP Management Participated in the Signing Ceremony of the Memorandum

of Understanding and Assistance to Ukraine in the Development of Credit Unions

 

Once members of UARP was established credit union (PVKS), experts of credit movement from Canada and Poland began to show interest in its activities, to invite to the joint events aimed at further development of credit business.

 

Chairman of the UARP Board Volodymyr Dziobak and member of the Board, Chief Editor of UARP publications Oleh Kravchenko attended the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding and Assistance to Ukraine in the development of credit unions. The Memorandum was signed by Canada, Germany, Poland, Ukraine and TACIS representatives.

 

Cultural Program of UARP in Rivne Region

 

In the framework of UARP Culture Program, the visiting performances of Kyiv Theater on Podil took place in rural and urban townships of Rivne region: Kuznetsovsk, Sarny, Ostroh, Dubno, Goscha. These events were a continuation of the UARP tradition of the metropolitan theaters approximation to hinterland that the Association launched, organizing guest performance of Kyiv theatre "Silver Island" in Radyvyliv.

 

Veterans - to Your Health!

 

Following an invitation the Department for Women, the disabled, veterans of war and labor KCSA member of the Board of Ukrainian Association of Retired Persons, chief editor of UARP publications Oleh Kravchenko took part in the meeting of the Board of this Department.

 

The Department together with UARP conducted a campaign to honor veterans of war and labor in the Day of the Elderly, October 1. Then each of the 120 invited veterans was given a set of frequently used drugs. But, as it was noted at the meeting of the Board, such contacts should have a more permanent nature. As said Iryna Golubeva, the Department intends to deepen cooperation with NGOs in Kyiv. In the Board session also took part the Head of Veterans of War and Labor Affairs Section of the Department Hunyadi Selivanov. "Useful and purposeful activities of such public organizations as UARP - said Hunyadi - should increasingly cover the veterans' community."

 

When You Are Over 90 ...

 

It is hard for a lonely man when frosty years of life come. How difficult to live in solitude, when "turned" 97! ... It is in this age Petro Ivanovych Kravets, war and labor veteran, the man who labored for decades at the factory, suddenly found that he is in a desperate situation. Neither his family nor ex-colleagues or fellow soldiers have left in this world. And thieves robbed his apartment, took everything! He went to the local Administration District of Social Security, where officials only made a helpless gesture: now we cannot help, all the money for such occasions spent, you must wait until the next month. And it is necessary to live out somehow till the next month! … And then Petro Ivanovych went to UARP. On the same day a financial assistance was given to him. Since that time he became a member of the Association.

 

"Yet Will Serve to Ukraine Grey-Haired Generation!"

Summed up the Song Contest UARP

 

UARP Board held a contest for the best song about the elderly "Yet Will Serve to Ukraine Grey-Haired Generation!"

 

The jury announced the results of the contest and decided:

The First Prize not awarded to anyone;

The Second Prize awarded for the song "The March of Grey-Haired Optimists" in the words and music UARP member Eugene Cherevchenko performed by Honored Artist of Ukraine Svetlana Myrvoda;

three third prizes were awarded to members of the UARP from Chernihiv Oblast, towns of Zhytomir and Berdychiv.

Для малого і середнього бізнесу сьогодні закриті економічні ліфти у цілих галузях економіки, бо з кожним роком сфери зацікавленості олігархії збільшуються, перекриваючи кисень усім іншим.
