Cooperation

With local authorities

The attentive readers probably might have noticed that this brochure is referred often to Radyvyliv district. That’s true, and the reason is that the former head of the local administration Sergiy V. Shevchenko was the first one to listen to our proposals among other local authorities. He assessed the significance of the proposed programs by the association. Unfortunately, he died tragically in the prime of his life, but we would remember this wise man, who showed an example of a truly state approach to many social, economic, cultural and educational problems.

Interaction with local authorities is one of the most important factors contributing to the effective operation of such public organization like UARP.

We cooperate successfully with local administration of Goshcha district, headed by Gennady M. Vladychuk. We managed to organize and implement affordable health insurance at Sarny district in Rivne region, being therefore supported by the head of district administration and the chairman of the district council. We were pleased to cooperate with former chief physician of the district hospital Mr. Panasyuk in the same field. It is hard to realize that Mr. Panasyuk passed away, but therefore left fond memories of him by means of introducing a number of innovations aimed to improve the health care of the population. When we had developed and then proposed innovative project of television medicine, he was not afraid of such super innovations. Later we conducted jointly the initial stage of this project. His untimely death and the global crisis made us unfortunately suspend further work in this direction.

We have a kind word to say about Lyudmyla A. Galushko that provided active support while implementing health insurance in Sarny district.

As for the relations with state and local authorities, we would like to mention the former Mayor of Odessa Ruslan B. Bodelan for his attention to our suggestions and problems. He managed to deal with core issues in twenty minutes, and also provide concrete help in resolution of the problems.

It would be nice that all the state officials resolved issues of the social policy like this.

With public organization of the elderly in Ukraine

Not always we managed to find support from the leaders of public organizations of the elderly in Ukraine. Thus there was no interaction with the Organization of Veterans of Ukraine, although several vice-chairmen of the organization were members of UARP themselves and initiated themselves the cooperation of our efforts meant to improve the quality of life for veterans.

But the best impressions we got while cooperating with the International Ukrainian Union of War Veterans (IUUWV), headed by Vasyl I. Bakushyn. There was a real meeting of minds between us, as we managed to organize jointly and carry out various actions to support veterans, like publishing of the information about the current events of IUUWV. His interview at the Our Generation journal was appreciated by the members of our public organizations. Unfortunately, the new leadership of IUUWV showed no desire for further cooperation after his death, but we respect all the veterans’ organizations.

With foreign organizations

We liaise with American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) and learn much from our American colleagues. While celebrating the 45th anniversary of AARP, the UARP delegation participated in a forum in Chicago, where we could establish business contacts with many prominent figures of this 35 million public organization. Unfortunately, we couldn’t take advantage of the invitation of AARP leadership to join the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the association, but our cooperation has good prospects.

We support stable close relationship with European Senior Citizens Union (ESCU). ESCU President Dr. Bernhard Worms visited us twice to get acquainted with the activities of our association. After that he initiated the admittance of UARP to ESCU. UARP delegations visited also Western Europe to take part in the Congress of ESCU and meetings of the Executive Committee, as well as to study the activities of European Senior Citizens Union.

We also keep in touch with the International Association of the Elderly FIAPA, HelpAge International, AGE Concern England and other organizations.

With enterprises and institutions

Even at the initial stage of formation of our Association we started cooperating with companies, research institutions as well as institutions of education and culture. The first step of the cooperation was the one with the teachers 84th Kyiv School, Institute of Gerontology of Ukraine, which created the first centers. Great help in the creation of such centers was provided by the director of the Institute of Gerontology Vladyslav Bezrukov. This wise and talented man still remains for us a kind of mentor, though he never imposes his own opinion.

Among the members of the Association there are a lot of cultural employees: artists, musicians, museum professionals etc. One cannot mention all those contributing to the establishment and growth of UARP in a small brochure. But we are grateful to all of them, and wish them all good health and longevity.

Dzobak Volodymyr Dzobak Volodymyr
