Soldiers were fired at from the Russian side in three different points
During last couple of days, pro-Russian militants have gotten into the act by redeploying their groups in several areas around Stakhanov and Yenakiyevo, the head of the group "Information resistance" Dmytro Tymchuk reports.
According to him, the intensity of firing at positions of ATO forces - including from the Russian territory - has increased everywhere.
In particular, national law-enforcement units were shelled:
- 6 times by BM-21 Grad volley fire systems and tanks near Novoannovka (Lugansk region);
- 6 times by mortars and BM-21 Grad volley fire systems near the airport in Lugansk;
- 3 times by mortars near Nyzhiy Minchenok (Lugansk region);
- 3 times by artillery near Kamyanka;
- 3 times by mortars near Noviy Svit;
- 3 times by mortars near Zelenopillia;
In addition, our troops were shelled from the Russian territory:
- several positions of troops shelled by BM-21 Grad volley fire systems in several border areas (in the direction from Nyzhnya Talivka, Rostov Region, Russia);
- shelling of Ukrainian paratroopers' positions from the Russian territory near Chervonopartyzansk lasted 3,5 Hours; according to the information provided by soldiers in an interview with the Ukrainian Truth, they were shelled no less than 5 hours in total.
- 3 times by BM-21 Grad volley fire systems near Diakovo.
Russia starts new large-scale air force exercises
The Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation is due to start yet another military exercise with more than 100 combat jets involved, the UNIAN news agency reports with a reference to the press service of the Russian Defence Ministry.
Air forces and air defence systems from a number of country's regions are to be engaged in drills.
In the first stage of military exercises, air forces of the Western Military Region should transit to airfields of the Central Military Region, as reported in a statement.
Air forces from operations airfields of the Southern direction - Armavir, Krymsk, Mozdok, Morozovsk and other cities - will take part in the next stage.
"Altogether, more than 100 aircraft of various types, such as jet fighters SU-27, Mig-31, SU-34 multifunctional systems , Su-24 front-line bombers, Mi-8, Mi-24 and Mi-28 helicopters, will be engaged in this military exercise", the Defence Ministry of the Russian Federation reports.
Drills are due to begin on Monday and will last until August 8.
NATIONAL SECURITY AND DEFENSE COUNSIL urges residents of uncontrolled territories to leave their homes
National Security and Defence Council calls on citizens in the East of Ukraine to leave territories occupied by terrorists.
This appeal was announced by Spokesman for the National Security and Defence Council Andriy Lysenko during a briefing on Monday.
According to him, terrorists have been robbing local population, kidnapping city residents and seizing private buildings and transport in the temporarily occupied territories of the Eastern Ukraine.
"Therefore we urge local residents to leave territories occupied by terrorists. 2 additional points near Donetsk in the village of Dachne (Mariinsky district) and in the village of Schastya in Luhansk region have been established for receiving displaced people coming through humanitarian transit corridors," Lysenko said.
He also mentioned that 967 people from Lugansk had already used the transit corridor leading to the village of Schastia.
5 service members were killed in the past 24 hours of the anti-terrorist operation
5 service members died and 14 others were wounded in the past 24 hours of the anti-terrorist operation in the East of Ukraine, Spokesman for Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council information centre (NSDC) Andriy Lysenko reported at a briefing.
EU sanctions will not get in the way of the South Stream, the head of an Austrian company said
The economic sanctions imposed by EU against Russia will not stop the South Stream pipeline from been built, said Gerhard Reuss, General Director of the Austrian energy company OMV, on Sunday.
"We have to build final 50 km of the pipeline from the Hungarian border to the Baumgarten distribution centre in accordance with previous arrangements and there should not be any criticism in this respect", he said in an interview with the magazine Profil.
Reuss, who signed a contract with Gazprom regarding the construction of the South Stream pipeline across Austria in June, expressed confidence that the pipeline would be built even though there is opposition to this contract voiced by some EU representatives.
ATO forces occupied Yasynuvata
Troops of ATO forces occupied the city of Yasinovataya, which is an important point of region's intersection of the Ukrainian railway, Spokesman for Ukrainian National Security and Defence Council Andriy Lysenko announced.
According to him, the liberation of the town allowed to encircle the city of Donetsk from the North, and to cut off one of the most important terrorists' supply channels for weapons and equipment.
"Now an operation is carried out in the town aimed at detection and neutralization of terrorist gangs. In addition, the Ukrainian army has unblocked roads connecting settlements Dmytrivka and Dyakove," Lysenko said.
Units of the Armed Forces got engaged in fighting with the terrorists 39 times in the past 24 hours, he added.
People have donated 140 million UAH for the Army
As of the 4th August, UAH 140,059 million was transferred to accounts of the Defence Ministry within the scope of the action "Support the Ukrainian Army".
As reported by the press-service of the Defence Ministry, the funds have been provided by natural and legal persons.
130,808 million of this amount was donated for material and technical supplies, and the rest of the money is intended for medical care.
