6 killed, and 9 wounded in the past 24 hours 39 attacks and an ambush

6 Ukrainian service members died and 9 other were wounded in fights in the east of the country in the past 24 hours; the rebels carried out 39 attacks in total, one of which from an ambush, the ATO press centre reported on the morning of 17 November.

"39 shell strikes, two assaults and an attack from an ambush were carried out by rebels in the past 24 hours disrupting the process of a peaceful conflict settlement in the eastern part of Ukraine," a statement reads.

A Ukrainian division was shelled by Grad systems near the town of Schastya in Lugansk region yesterday.

Putin admitted the Russian army blocking Ukrainian servicemen in the Crimea

President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin admitted the Russian Army blocked Ukrainian military depots before the "referendum" on the independence of the peninsula according to what he said in an interview with the German TV channel ARD.

"Yes, I do not suppress it. Off course it is a fact, and we have never suppressed it… Indeed, our forces, and lets be straight forward, blocked Ukrainian troops deployed in the Crimea, not for the sake of forcing people to go to vote - that could never have been done - but to prevent bloodshed, and to give people an opportunity to express their own stance on how they want to determine their future and the future of their children," he stated.

President Poroshenko believes Ukraine is the most dangerous place in the world at the moment according to what he said in an interview with the German newspaper Bild.

"For the time being, Ukraine is the most dangerous place in the world even more dangerous than a threat coming from the Islamic state and everything else going on in the Middle East. There are thousands of Russian soldiers in my country, hundreds of tanks and heavy armaments. This is one of the largest armies in the world menacing us and the whole Europe," he said.

Poland calls on EU to get prepared for a "black scenario" in Ukraine

EU has to be prepared for a "black scenario" of events in Ukraine, Foreign Minister of Poland Grzegorz Schetyna said before the meeting of Foreign Ministers of EU countries in Brussels as reported by the press service of the ministry.

I hope it will be a serious talk, and we will write a scenario in the event of aggressive Russian actions in the eastern and south Ukraine. EU has to be prepared for such black scenarios, Schetyna said.

Merkel: Russia threatens Ukraine, and Georgia, as well as Moldova

Russia imposes danger not only for Ukraine, but also Georgia, Moldova and even to Balkan countries, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said in Sydney as reported by Deutsche Welle.

The peace in Europe is called into question after all the horror of the world wars, after the Cold War. And this situation was caused by Russia, which continues to destabilize the situation in the Ukrainian east," Merkel said.

The Ukrainian crisis has affected all of us. We are talking here not only about Ukraine, but also Georgia and Moldova, she added.

Tymchuk: Rebels under command of Mozgovoy to force the Ukrainian army back

Rebels are reinforcing their troops deployed between the settlements of Schastya and Stanyza Luganska; insurgents under command of Oleksiy Mozgovoy intend to force Ukrainian servicemen back, the head of the "Information Resistance" group, Dmytro Tymchuk, posted on his Facebook wall on November 17.  

"The main rebel forces are massed in the area between Schastya and Stanyza Luganska, Lugansk region. Armed gangs stationed in that area have been spotted being reinforced with a large number of mortars, Tymchuk writes.

At the same time, Alchevsk has effectively been transformed into a terrorist base."
