Dzobak Volodymyr Dzobak Volodymyr

ATO Headquarters: Fighting continues in the Donetsk airport

Hostilities are continuing in the area of the Donetsk airport, the ATO press centre reported on the morning of January 19.

"Military operations aimed at recapturing rebel-held facilities are being carried out in the territory of the Donetsk airport. The enemy suffers significant losses in personnel and materiel", the statement reads.

99 rebel shell strikes within the past 24 hours; inhabited settlements go through hell

Militants have shelled Ukrainian army positions and Donbas inhabited areas 35 times from 18.00 Sunday with the total number of 99 attacks on Ukrainian army positions over the past day, the ATO press centre said on Monday.

"Mortars, grenade launchers and artillery bombarded Makarove, Sokolnyky, Krasnogorivka, Tonenke, Troitske, Popasna, Chermalyk and Talakivka. Krymske came under fire three times. Grad systems shelled Donetsk, Schastya, Tryokhizbenka, Stanytsia Luganska, Nyzhnye, Tonenke and Talakivka. Volley fire systems fired upon the settlements of Pisky and Kirovske twice," the press centre wrote on Facebook.

The largest number of shell strikes – eight to be specific - was detected near Gnutove.

Hostilities continue in the area of the Donetsk airport, the press centre said.

Moskal: Militants cynically violate the truce; casualties and destruction reported

A two-day armistice has been disrupted in Lugansk region, for militants shelled villages and towns; some destruction and casualties among peaceful residents have been reported, Chairman of the Lugansk Regional State Administration Gennady Moskal reported on his webpage on Monday.

Ceasefire arrangements announced for the festive period on Saturday in Lugansk region have been disrupted by rebels, Moskal says.

Inhabited settlements and army positions situated in government-held territories were fiercely fired upon on Sunday afternoon with artillery, mortars, Grad volley fire systems, and machine-guns.

"Yesterday's events have proved once again, what agreements with the "PRL" are worth, the governor of Lugansk Regional State Administration stated.

ATO Headquarters: 3 killed, and 66 wounded within the past 24 hours

3 military died, and 66 others were wounded in the area of the anti-terrorist operation in the past 24 hours, a spokesman for the Ukrainian National Security and Defence Council, Andriy Lysenko, reported at a briefing on Monday.

According to him, the situation in the ATO has a tendency to get worse. The intensity of shelling, including strikes on resident quarters, has increased.

Vasilyeva: 382 Russian soldiers killed in Donbas within 3 days with a total figure of more than 6 thousand servicemen perished

The Russian army lost 382 servicemen within the past 3 days, and further 500 were wounded as a result of intense fighting in Donbas. In total, around 5860 Russian soldiers have been either killed or posted missing since the war began in Ukraine last year, Elena Vasilyeva, a Russian human rights activist investigating Russian soldiers' participation in the Ukrainian war, posted on the website after her comeback home from Donbas.

Vasilyeva also notes that information on the fact that the Russian part stopped collecting and sorting out body parts found on the battle fields has been confirmed.

According to Vasilyeva, the number of those posted missing is growing.

"I officially voiced the number of dead and missing Russian soldiers a week ago, which is 5860 people. Last week added 382 soldiers to that figure. So, in total, 6242 Russian people were lost, the founder of the Cargo 200 Group said.

Poroshenko: ATO troops were forced to open fire in the Donetsk airport

Ukrainian troops had to open fire at the Donetsk airport because rebel attacks had sharply intensified and militants had banned the evacuation of Ukrainian military and casualties from the airport, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said.

"The intensity of the attacks on the Donetsk airport by terrorists and the unpunished ceasefire violations sharply increased in the past few days. The day before yesterday, I ordered a one-time response because they had just banned us from evacuating our casualties from the Donetsk airport," he said during a meeting with Polish Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz in Kyiv on Monday.

The president recalled that the document prohibiting the use of artillery in Donbas was signed on December 9, 2014.

"This document was effective, but it lasted less than a month because the tensions were escalated considerably after January 7 by Russia and the terrorist groups in the eastern regions," Poroshenko said.

Poroshenko said the number of attacks by the militia on the Ukrainian troops has increased from ten to 90-100 attacks a day.

"These attacks mainly hurt civilians," the president said, recalling the tragedy near Volnovakha on January 13, in which 13 civilians, including children, were killed.

"The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry yesterday issued a statement on my orders saying that we are ready to sign a ceasefire agreement immediately on condition of full observance of the Mink agreements," Poroshenko said.
