Dzobak Volodymyr Dzobak Volodymyr

that have happened in Ukraine today.

Fights continue in Lugansk, as insurgents counter-attack

ATO forces conduct spot checks on roads in direction of several eastern towns, namely Shakhtarsk, Ternove, Ridkodub, Saur-Mohyla. АТО air forces destroyed a significant number of separatists' military personnel, weapons and materiel, says Tymchuk.

Terrorists keep carrying out counter-attacks in Lugansk district trying to flush out ATO forces of the area. Positions of ATO forces close to the Luhansk airport are constantly fired upon by РСЗО BM-21 Grad volley fire systems, tanks and mortars, he adds.

At the same time, there have been some cases of terrorists' movement to Slovyansk district in small groups and under the guise of civilian residents.

Weapons and ammunition was spotted being transferred from the annexed Crimea via the Azov Sea, says Tymchuk.

ATO forces stationed in border regions were fired upon from the Russian side at least twice in the past 24 hours. Russian artillery units may have fired, he reports.

Militants have intensified their intelligence service activities and started hunting for people who help ATO forces

Insurgents carry out intelligence service activities in Donbas region and spread information between themselves on those people who help the Ukrainian army conducting anti-terrorist operations, the ATO press centre reads in its weekly summary of operations.

At present, their main task is to collect intelligence information on military unit deployment, to recruit agents and to establish sleeper cells, as well as to prepare for terrorist acts, the ATO press centre states.

UN: at least 1129 civilians have been killed during the ATO in Ukraine

At least 1129 civilians were killed, and 3442 others wounded from the beginning of the ATO (mid-April) to July 26 in Ukraine, Interfax-Ukraine Online announced with reference to the fourth monthly report of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in the country.

Based on the most reliable data available, the monitoring mission on human rights and the World Health Organization believe that the number of casualties in the period from mid-April to 15 July constitutes at least one thousand people. As of July 26, at least 1129 people were killed and 3442 others wounded, reads the report submitted on Monday.

It covers the period from 8 June to 15 July 2014. At the same time, the High Commissioner Office underlined that the real number of the dead would be difficult to calculate.

According to the press office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the report shows that armed people in the eastern part of Ukraine continue to kidnap, hold in custody, torture and execute individuals that are held as hostages in order to intimidate and exercise their authority over people using flagrant and brutal methods.

NATIONAL SECURITY AND DEFENSE COUNCIL: Militants have not allowed taking children away from the ATO area

The militants have categorically refused to allow 135 orphans to be taken away from the ATO area and continue to keep them as hostages, Spokesman for Ukrainian National Security and Defence Council Andriy Lysenko reported at a briefing.

Terrorists continue to keep 135 children as hostages from both Donetsk and regional children’s homes, as well as from Makiyivka children's home called Malyatko, where HIV-positive children are looked after, he said.

Militants categorically refused to allow those children to be taken away from the ATO area and are still using them as a human shield.
