Reporters Without Borders: Ukraine becoming one of the most dangerous countries for journalists

According to the report of Reporters Without Borders, Ukraine is one of the most dangerous countries for journalists, a statement published on Tuesday reads, as reported by  MedіaSapіens.

According to information provided by Reporters Without Borders, 66 journalists were killed in 2014, which means that the number of murders of journalists has reached 720 people for the decade.

6 journalists have been killed in Ukraine this year; therefore, the country was ranked third in the anti-ranking. The top five countries with the most negative rates include Syria (15 murders journalists), Palestine (7), Iraq (4) and Libya (4).


RF military marching to Granitne; rebel attacks repelled near Stanyzia Luganska

A joint group of Russian troops stationed near Telmanove has advanced to the front line near the settlement of Granitne again being reinforced with an artillery battalion, the head of the Information Resistance Group, MP Dmytro Tymchuk, posted on his  Facebook Wall on December 16.

According to the IR group, this battalion previously sustained losses from shell strikes conducted by army forces and was brought out.

In addition, "Russian terrorist army was reinforced with "newly formed" companies of the Cossack Guard on the Debaltseve base near the settlements of Nikishyno and Chornukhine," Tymchuk says.

"After having attacked our positions near Stanyzia Luganska, terrorists tried to take up several positions in the "buffer zone". However, they bumped into Ukrainian subdivisions, and had to fall back to their previous positions", he writes.

Rebels attack a convoy heading for the Donetsk airport

Rebels carried out nine attacks in Donbas in the 24 hours including those on a convoy carrying goods for the defenders of the Donetsk airport, the ATO press centre reported on the morning of December 16.

"Using the reached agreement to stop fighting, terrorists continue to attack army positions with artillery and mortars, Grad volley fire systems and small arms," the statement reads. 

Also, positions of Ukrainian troops in the settlements of Krymsk, Novotoshkivsk, Trudivsk, Debaltseve, and Chernukhine were hit by insurgents with heavy armaments.

"Terrorists conducted two purposeful attacks on resident quarters of inhabited settlements. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported among the civilian population," ATO press centre said.  

OSCE mission not allowed entering Novoazovsk for the sixth time

OSCE mission has not been able to enter into the rebel-held town of Novoazovsk, the OBSE press-centre reports.

The mission sent a patrol to Novoazovsk on December 14 passing through the rebel-held village of Shyrokine, which was stopped.

It has been the sixth attempt of the mission to get to Novoazovsk within the past eight days.

"No reasons were given to the mission," the report reads.

National Security Council: No Ukrainian military died in the ATO area in the past 24 hours

There were no casualties among Ukrainian military in the ATO area, a spokesman for Ukrainian National Security and Defence Council, Andriy Lysenko, reported at a briefing on Tuesday.

At the same time, he noted that the intensity of shelling was decreasing.

Militants shell the Donetsk airport from positions in the territory of a monastery

Shelling of ATO forces is still going on in Donbas, with the majority of strikes carried out near the Donetsk airport, the ATO press-centre reports.

"Rebels conducted 8 assaults on army positions during the first half of the day, four of which on positions of ATO fighters at the Donetsk airport. Gunmen used sniper rifles and grenade launchers to fight against Ukrainian military", the statement reads.

"ATO fighters continue to hold the truce agreement and did not open fire in response", the report stated.
