Dzobak Volodymyr Dzobak Volodymyr

Human rights activists: About 10 thousands Crimean Tatars left the Crimea

Human rights activists say that 10 out of 300 thousand Crimean Tatars have been forced to leave the Crimea, a member of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Abmedjit Suleimanov stated at a press conference in Kyiv on Wednesday, Interfax-Ukraine  reports

"Repressions against the Crimean Tatar people started straight after Russia's emergence in the Crimea ... Repressions against Tatars, who took a pro-Ukrainian stance, have not stopped since March 2014.  Repressions are normally conducted in the form of kidnappings, murders of activists, mass searches, fines and arrests for participation in protest actions," he said.

According to Suleimanov, activists are banned from entering the Crimea, and the work of Crimean Tatar media and public institutions is blocked.

He noted that latest arrests were carried out in February for participation in a protest action, which was held a year ago.

"Because of these repressions 10 out of 300 thousand populations had to leave the territory of the Crimea and are now living on mainland Ukraine," Suleimanov said.

In addition, the leader of the Crimean Tatars, Mustafa Djemilev, has also been banned from entering the Crimea until 2019.
